Siemens NX Software

Choosing the right software is a crucial part of additive manufacturing (AM).
Siemens NX offers data consistency and covers the entire process chain, making it the ideal choice.

Siemens NX provides next-generation design, simulation and manufacturing solutions. The software has industrialised additive manufacturing. This allows you to reimagine your products, make your production processes more efficient and even revolutionise your business model. As a SaaS solution, NX X makes the software available anywhere, at any time and on any device.

WE OFFER SIEMENS NX MODULEs FOR THE FOLLOWING PROCESSES:

The Fixed Plane Advanced module can be used for manufacturing activities on fixed planes (e.g. powder bed and jetting processes). It combines fundamentally important CAD functions (allocation of measurements, closure of drill holes and design of auxiliary bodies) with add-ons for additive manufacturing.

  • Orientation in the assembly space
  • Support structure generation
  • Data slicing for the AM machine
  • Solid modelling
  • 3D nesting
  • Fundamental free-form modelling
  • Assembly modelling
  • Facet processin

The module can export data to AM machines by means of a 3MF and STL-file-based export. Siemens NX is compatible with a large number of build processors.

The Siemens NX Multi-Axis basic module covers AM-specific multi-axis CAM operations that support multiple models with planar or rotational shapes, as well as 3D free-forms for the laser deposition process. It is compatible with axis-controlled and robot-controlled operations.

The software optimises the laser deposition process by allowing users to harness all the degrees of freedom offered by additive manufacturing. The module also supports a wide range of tool path operations. As a Siemens NX AM Expert Partner, AMbitious offers a complete solution for laser deposition welding, including a post-processor.

The basic CAD functions can be expanded by the Topology Optimisation, Implicit Modelling and Lattice Structures modules for use with additive manufacturing.

Topology Optimisation

In addition to making components more lightweight, the finite element method (FEM) optimises their design. The Topology Optimisation module can be used to calculate the most efficient basic shape for components (topology), while taking mechanical loads into account.

Implicit Modelling

The Siemens NX Implicit Modelling module can be used to create equation-driven structures (e.g. gyroid structures) and to perform efficient operations on complex, challenging geometries.

Lattice Structures

This module allows users to manufacture complex geometrical structures that boost structural integrity and reduce the weight of components. Due to their complex geometric properties, lattices are virtually impossible to produce using conventional CAD technology.

Producing premium-quality components is the main challenge of additive manufacturing. Siemens NX helps users to overcome this challenge with its process simulation feature, which is able to calculate potential distortions and shrinkage lines. The results are used to automatically create a pre-deformed component – helping users to generate components of outstanding quality on the very first print –
first time right.

Siemens NX is also an ideal solution for manufacturing steps beyond the 3D printing process. The CAM module supports users with the programming of machine tools and machining simulation all the way through to further processing. It can be used to program complex drilling and multi-axis operations for the machining of planar surfaces and free-form surfaces. It can also verify tool paths.

NX X: CLOUD-BASED SAAS SOLUTION

SaaS stands for software as a service and is a modern method of software delivery that Siemens uses to host its NX software in the cloud. This means that users can access the software through a web browser or desktop client on PCs, Macs and even mobile devices. This method of providing Siemens NX to users is managed and supported by Siemens Cloud Operations Excellence.

What is NX X?

Siemens NX X stands out from other CAD cloud solutions by providing the same advanced design capabilities found in the desktop version of NX. NX X has redefined mobile working by allowing users to work and collaborate in NX from anywhere, at any time and on any device. The Xcelerator Academy training provided with the software makes it easy for new NX users to learn the ropes quickly and get started straightaway. The graphics performance within NX X is very responsive. What's more, the graphics data is encrypted end-to-end between the cloud and the user's device.

What does NX X include?

  • Access to NX software
  • Hosting on a public cloud infrastructure
  • Managed services from Siemens (i.e. IT administration, start-up, upgrades, back-up and support)
  • CAD training using the certified training documents provided by the Xcelerator Academy
  • Cooperation with Teamcenter X, giving users instant PLM access

What are the benefits of NX X?

  • No need to make a large upfront investment in unlimited licences
  • No need to purchase and maintain expensive high-end hardware
  • No need for labour-intensive software deployment
  • No need to invest huge amounts of time in maintaining data security
  • No need to maintain back-ups for disaster recovery

BENEFITS OF SIEMENS NX

The integration of all CAD, CAE, CAM and AM modules into one piece of software means that users only need to work in one interface along the entire digital process chain. This allows users to avoid conversion errors and enjoy a seamless workflow. Moreover, any changes that need to be made at the end of the process can be implemented quickly and efficiently without the laborious task of changing systems.

Entire process chain

End-to-end digital process chain for additive manufacturing – from design and simulation through to manufacturing and further processing using machining techniques.

No interfaces

No external interfaces (just one file format) or feedback loops between the individual steps in the process.

Additional features

Special features for topology optimisation and the design of lattice structures.

Convergent Modeling

The Convergent Modelling module can be used to assist with the machining and processing of scanned components, which is highly beneficial during large-scale reverse engineering tasks.

Workpiece creation

The Synchronous Modelling module and the parametric processing of external data make it easy to create workpieces for AM build jobs.

Implementa-tion of changes

High modelling performance allows changes to components to be made directly to the workpieces and other relevant elements being developed, saving time from the design stage to the CAM strategy.
